THE BEATLES’ songs are finally available to download on iTunes after the band yesterday thrashed out a £500million deal with Apple.
After a long legal battle, classic hits such as Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, Help and Hey Jude can now be bought online for 99p.
Delighted SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY, 68, said: “We’re really excited to bring The Beatles’ music to iTunes.
“It’s fantastic to see the songs we originally released on vinyl receive as much love in the digital world as they did the first time around.”
JOHN LENNON’s widow YOKO ONO said: “It is appropriate we are doing this in John’s 70th birthday year.”
The deal comes after a row dating back to 1978, when The Beatles’ label, Apple Corps, sued tech giant Apple for using an apple logo.
Apple boss and Fab Four fan Steve Jobs said he was “thrilled” with the deal, which leaves AC/DC as one of the very few giant rock acts who still refuse to let his company sell their music.
Industry expert Martin Talbot said the “massive historical step” will have a “huge impact” on charts.
Bookies were last night taking bets on which single hits No1 first – with Hey Jude the 6-1 favourite. It is 25-1 a Beatles song is top at Christmas.
